If the world wanted safe, clean, economical transport then there wouldn't be very many cars. To prevent this from happening the automotive industry produces silly messages to keep us hooked on their products. Some skepticism about these would be a great thing.
"We care about the environment"
Remember these are the people who put all those SUVs and "sports" cars on your streets. The average fuel economy in most western countries has not improved for the last 20 years. New technology has simply been offset by larger vehicles and engines. The SUV problem began with a cynical attempt by Detroit's big 3 to exploit a loophole in fuel economy regulations.
"We care about safety"
They continue to build the majority of their cars to travel well in excess of the legal speed limit.

"Our car will give you freedom"
The car in the advert may be zooming about at illegal speeds on a nice empty road, but you will be stuck in traffic. What's more you'll be wasting several hours a week working to pay for your car, looking for parking, filling it with petrol, maintaining it and paying its bills.
If the ad is for an SUV poncing about some nice looking wilderness, bare in mind that practically all of New Zealand's national parks don't allow cars. You'll have to get out and walk like everybody else.
Eventually the car will change the shape of your own body, to the point where you can no longer walk, run or cycle anywhere practical.
